Jacques Lacan lived at number 5 rue de Lille, near to where Laura Gonzalez runs her gallery at number 3. A coincidence? Every autumn, as part of Paris Design Week, the decorator presents her new furniture pieces. “I’m in a period of renewal,” says Laura Gonzalez. “My style is evolving, as are my desires, and I’m opening myself up to a multitude of possibilities. A lot of that comes from talking to people close to me, discussing things with my team, and meeting artisans. This collection, Conversations, Réflexions, Divagations, reflects such creative exchange. To bring this to life, I’ve reimagined my gallery as a psychoanalyst’s office — a space conducive to empowering monologues — which extends into a dining room — a place for endless discussions between friends. Two spaces to open our hearts, all rolled into one!”

In a scene reminiscent of the Middle Eastern folktales in One Thousand and One Nights, interwoven with the enchanting ambience of the exotic Majorelle Garden in Marrakesh, the new design scheme in the Laura Gonzalez gallery dazzles with its interplay of colors, motifs, and pieces, all perfectly at home in this showroom on rue de Lille. The gallery’s décor features a strong juxtaposition of cool and warm colors, along with a proliferation of iconic pieces: the Madras armchair in glossy lacquered wood with a tortoiseshell motif, the Soho armchair upholstered in thick green velvet, the six-legged Octopus Suzy table in gold-tone brushed oak and its terracotta-colored marquetry on the travertine top, all arranged on a fabulous carpet and an abundance of rugs, some sourced in Morocco.

Laura Gonzalez has chosen to open her first Parisian space at 3 rue de Lille, in the plush atmosphere of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The architect has opted for the vibe of a small art gallery, not a showroom. In practice, she has transformed the exhibition space into a laboratory for experimentation. In this space for living and display, pieces from the collection dialogue brilliantly with one-offs. From the outset, Laura Gonzalez has bet on craftsmanship, quality, comfort, and materials. Now it’s possible to see and touch them up close. With this gallery, it’s all about recreation. It’s a party. Outrageous creativity, multiple collaborations, explosive colors, and infinite possibilities. Nothing stuffy or cold. This is a place where stories are told, and you’ll want to return — often.
