An interior designer renowned for her freewheeling combinations of motifs, materials, styles, and furnishings, Laura Gonzalez has invented an increasingly coveted style, often copied, rarely rivaled. A form of classicism infused with romanticism. Classic in the architectural layout of her spaces, marked by balance, measure, and symmetry. But the atmosphere is always resolutely romantic. Instead of classical order, she prefers wandering reveries that lead her, through intricate floral designs, to Pre-Raphaelite influences. Unrolling panoramic strips of wallpaper, she transports you to faraway landscapes. And she doesn’t shy away from a few Turkish baubles borrowed from the writer-traveler Pierre Loti (1850-1923). While others write bestselling novels, Laura Gonzalez authors vibrant interiors into a captivating narrative.
It is in a Belle Époque mansion built for Gaby Deslys (1881-1920), a shooting star of the music hall, that Laura Gonzalez set up her creative studio. “The location, a stone’s throw from the Bois de Boulogne, with lots of trees nearby and a small garden, immediately appealed to me,” assures the decorator. I feel like I'm working in a country house! » There, on 600 m2, spread over six levels, its 45 employees are busy, some glued to their computer screens refining plans on AutoCAD, others watercoloring textile patterns with a brush in hand. Faithful to her vision of an art of living joyfully mixing professional activity and the intimate sphere, Laura Gonzalez preferred to traditional offices a place arranged like a beautiful family home. The ground floor is therefore structured around a large kitchen-dining room which also serves as a meeting room, once the lunch break is over. Patterned carpets on the staircase, walls covered with printed fabrics in the open spaces, vintage furniture here and there contribute to a joyful daily life.
Published by Rizzoli, Laura Gonzalez’s first book, entitled Intérieurs (Interiors), is a detailed retrospective of her most emblematic projects and a presentation of her most recent creations, tracing both her professional career and the evolution of her distinctive style.
From elegant private residences and luxury hotels to restaurants transformed into works of art and many other spaces, Intérieurs is not only a showcase for her projects, but also a source of inspiration for design enthusiasts and professionals. It shows how Laura manages to blend tradition and modernity, creating functional and inviting spaces that tell a story.
